Highlights from LITE's history

  • 1993 - Hamper season depressed sales at inner-city grocery businesses
  • 1993-4 - Volunteers started raising money for “the gift that gives twice”: the Christmas LITE campaign that purchases Christmas hampers from inner-city businesses
  • 1997 - First Pancake Breakfast
  • 1998 - First grants to partners, with a 50/50 split of donations between grants and inner-city purchases
  • 1999 - Incorporated
  • 2001 - Name changed from 'Christmas LITE' to 'LITE' to reflect the shift to year-long campaign
  • 2002 - LITE achieves charitable status
  • 2003 - First participation in the Run for Rights
  • 2006 - LITE moves into its own office at 571 Selkirk Avenue
