And the Winners are...
February 2010
Last fall, a group of LITE supporters decided to hold a beard growing contest to raise money for LITE. Participants registered for the contest in September and the beards were judged on November 27th at LITE's Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast.

Derek Eidse won for the Best Beard, Colin McInnes won for the Best Groomed Beard and Andy Blum won for the Worst Beard.
The money raised from the contest was donated to LITE in the name of the three winners. Thank you to everyone who participated to help raise funds for LITE!

LITE's 13th Annual Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast
December 2009
We are pleased to report that this year's Breakfast was another huge success, with over 800 attendees and more than $20,000 raised in ticket sales and donations!
Throughout the morning, the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre was bustling with hundreds of people who came out to mingle with old and new friends, to do some early Christmas shopping at our local Crafter's Market, to enjoy the locally sourced blueberry pancakes catered by LITE Partners, and to take in performances by The Dusty Roads Band, Fred Penner, Troy Westwood, and Niji Mahkwa School
Choir.
The staff and Board at LITE would like to thank our sponsors: Assinbione Credit Union,
MGEU, The Thomas Sill Foundation, and CKUW, our dedicated volunteers, and everyone who attended
to support LITE and CED in Winnipeg! We can't wait to see you all again next year!

Get Creative with LITE Fundraising Campaigns!
Fall 2009
This summer, LITE board member, Jenn Bogoch, came up with a great idea for a LITE fundraiser: a traveling used book sale. The book sale began at SEED Winnipeg and continues to raise money for LITE as it travels on to other workplaces!
At the end of the summer, Brad Franck, a past LITE board member, thought of another fun way to raise money for LITE: a beard growing contest!
In September, participants posed for a photograph to document their clean shaven faces for comparison at the end of the contest.
The beards will be judged on Friday, November 27th at LITE's Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast and the money raised will be donated to LITE in honour of the winners!
If you are interested in multiplying your donation by leading a school, church, or workplace campaign for LITE, please contact us for more information.

A Record-Breaking Breakfast, What’s Next?
February 2009
The Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast in November turned out to be LITE’s most successful fundraising event ever! An attendance of over 800 celebrated CED in the inner city by singing with Fred Penner, enjoying the delicious pancakes, shopping from local crafters, and supporting LITE's Working Solution Fund. Our net income this year was $15,850 (compared with $7,200 in 2007). Thank you so much to the dozens of dedicated volunteers, our sponsors (ACU, KAIROS, Thomas Sill, CBC Radio One, CKUW), and everyone who promoted the breakfast and made it a success! Check out our upcoming spring newsletter for details.
Like other charities, we too are weathering the effects of the economic downturn, but we are nearing our end-of-March donations target of $120,000 for our Working Solution Fund. Less than $5000 still to raise! Would your church or workplace be interested in a presentation about LITE? Or just more info? Let us know, and thank you for helping us support our partners, who, after all, are the most vulnerable to recession! Please contact us, or donate now…
This winter will pass, believe it or not, and if you are dreaming about that possibility, now’s the time to mark your calendars to Run for LITE in the 2009 Run for Rights, June 6th. Watch for more info to come in the spring.
