LITE’s 17th Annual Breakfast another great success!
The results are in. After counting up all the raffle proceeds, ticket sales, donations, and the generous support of our sponsors the 17th Annual Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast has made a whopping $23,892.50! The best part of this unique event is that even our operating expenses go to support inner-city employment initiatives meaning that almost every single cent raised will stay in the inner city. After paying all of our amazing inner-city caterers, musicians, and food suppliers we are happy to report that we are left with over $16,000 towards our Alternative Christmas Hamper Program. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this event such an amazing success!
Check out LITE’s blog to read our intern’s perspective on how the breakfast demonstrates Community Economic Development in action.

The Performers for LITE’s 17th Annual Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast are officially confirmed!
Al Simmons, Alexander McCowan, Dustin Harder, The Norman Chief Memorial Dancers and The Treble are all confirmed to perform at this year’s Breakfast! Check out their bios below and click here to download the program.
Alexander McCowan: Alexander McCowan is a singer/songwriter from Winnipeg, MB. Musically, Alexander borrows from numerous genres to achieve an over-all deep, laid back, country/folk groove which he has brought to audiences across Canada. His current album “Present Times” was released in 2012 and is now available for purchase.
Dustin Harder: Dustin Harder is a singer/songwriter from Winnipeg, MB. Best known for his work with The Dusty Roads Band, Dustin has performed on several stages across Canada and built a following through grassroots promotion and hard work ethic. In 2009, Dustin released his album, “Searching for a River” that went on to sell over 1700 copies independently and was nominated for a 2009 Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Award.
Al Simmons: Al is a man dedicated to the all but lost art of combining comedy with song, dance, magic, and sight-gags. The end result is a one-man multi-prop, music-filled, off the wall variety show which has elevated audiences world-wide to collective giggles and all-out guffaws.
The Norman Chief Memorial Dancers: The Norman Chief Memorial Dancers were founded in 2004 in memory of the late Norman Chief, a Metis musician, singer, and entertainer. The Norman Chief Dancers’ primary purpose is to promote and develop community spirit through traditional style Metis music and dance. The team dances at fundraising events in Aboriginal communities throughout Manitoba to further promote Metis culture and heritage.
The Treble: Since 2010, The Treble has carved out a reputation for crafting impressively bold and unique folk-infused pop music that has enough of the integral rock vibe to appeal to a phenomenal cross-section of music lovers. The band’s recently released second EP “Northern Lights” is now their main focus as they criss-cross the country, charming music lovers from coast to coast.

From Sleep Out to Shout Out…see our newest blog post…
Amidst the media hoopla and (legitimate) debate about the CEO sleepout, I’m moved to give a “shout out” to a special group of people also working to eliminate homelessness and poverty in Winnipeg – the front line workers for a myriad of charitable agencies that support training and jobs in the inner city. Some of them may even have participated in the sleepout, but this effort is more than a one-day event for these folks. Today, they’ll be back in their workplaces, working side-by-side with Winnipeggers struggling against the odds to make those all-important steps toward self-sufficiency.

We will also need help with cashing in the change at the bank and/or credit union.

Kicking off the new year with a campaign about CED. Help spread the word.
We have been investing in Winnipeg’s inner city communities since 1994. We raise funds to support the inner city’s long-term community economic development (CED). The solutions to poverty in Winnipeg demands long-term strategies built on the initiatives of local residents. This is the basis of our two disbursement programs: Community Organization Grants and Christmas Hamper Purchases. Spread the word that we do more for the people in your community.
