Last year, LITE invested $330K in low-income neighbourhoods. Our efforts supported 450 people in short-term job experiences and touched over 1,300 people who are living in poverty.
Our work was made possible by our staff, by our incredible board and volunteers, and by the generosity of individual donors. Thank you all!
In their acceptance speech, executive director Tyler Pearce noted that “As members of the chamber will know, every venture begins as a small idea, a dream you want to see grow. For non-profit organizations it’s often a dream that the way the world is now – with its barriers, its system failures, its hatreds and prejudices– just doesn’t have to be this way. We can be a welcoming city for immigrants and refugees. We can build sustainable, community-minded food systems. And we can offer paid job experiences – for people who might not be ready for a ‘regular’ job, we can engage people in serving their community.”
Non-profits and social enterprises support communities by bringing these other ways of being and doing to life. We offer opportunities. We give people the space and resources they need to flourish and wow the world.
That’s why we’re working with our fellow nominees – Immigration Partnership Winnipeg and Fireweed Cooperative — to offer the Spirit of Community water bottle.
Your purchase can help us raise $15K for programs across the three of us, with a bundle available to provide Main Street Project with durable water bottles for their community.
Thank you, Winnipeg, for being a city that supports dreams and helps them grow.
Thank you, once again, to all our supporters, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the importance of non-profit organizations and social enterprises in Winnipeg, and to Assiniboine Credit Union for sponsoring this award category.
